Some books I read along my journey to motherhood
"Choosing Single Motherhood" by Mikki Morrissette
"Having a Baby Without a Man" by Susan Robinson, M.D. and H.F. Pizer, PA-C
"No Man? No Problem. Knock Yourself Up." by Louise Sloan
Louise is thirty-eight, single, gay, and ready to be a mom. This book charmingly tells the story of her race against her biological clock. Combining practical advice with a hilarious first-hand account of becoming a Single Mother by Choice, this book never failed to lift me up and help me move forward in my own journey.
"The New Essential Guide to Lesbian Conception, Pregnancy and Birth" by Stephanie Brill
"The Fertility Diet" by Jorge E. Chavarro and Walter C. Willett and Patrick J. Skerrett
The book advertises "groundbreaking research" but to be honest, none of the content really seemed very groundbreaking to me. The book was published 2007 and maybe it was groundbreaking 6 years ago. The advice in the book is not bad and might be interesting to people who are completely new to the topic. But people who have read a little bit about conception and been a member of online forums probably already know most of the advice the book gives. I watched a 3 min. youtube clip about food and fertility and it pretty much gave the same advice in summarized form.
"Six Steps to Increased Fertility" by Robert L. Barbieri, Alice D. Domar, and Kevin R. Loughlin
I really liked this book. In six steps it covers a wide range of fertility factors, from weight, to diet, to stress reduction, hormones, and other medical issues. It gives a really broad overview of different factors that play into fertility. At the end of the book, there is a really helpful glossary in addition to plenty of fertility resources and addresses of organizations.
